HDA played an important long-term role in the creation of the Olympic standard rowing lake at Dorney for Eton College, with involvement in the planning, design, construction and management of the lake.

HDA was responsible for co-ordination of a team of consultants which prepared a detailed construction scheme, and contributed to the Environmental Statement that accompanied the Planning Application covering need, site selection, use of the rowing lake and the construction process.
HDA also co-ordinated extensive consultations with the statutory consultees, and produced material for a public exhibition, including phased construction drawings, illustrating the complex construction programme. HDA subsequently co-ordinated the successful planning appeal, and appeared as the expert landscape planning witness.
Following the successful appeal, HDA supervised the advance works contracts which included arboricultural works, tree and hedgerow planting.

HDA was then part of the central project management team, advising on all landscape and ecology matters, and monitoring archaeological works over the period of the main contract.
On-going involvement included development of the park, nature consevation area, the arboretum, the main boathouse and finish facilities, site signage and production of a management plan for the entire site.
